Polygons are all around us if you look closely. In this unit you are going to learn about the names of different polygons. You will learn how to properly name triangles and quadrilaterals based on their sides and angles. In each section there is a little quiz you will take to show that you have mastered the material. After you have completed all three sections your eyes will be open to the many polygons around you and you will share some of what you see on the Photo Page. By completing this wiki you will be able to do the following:
Identify polygons by the number of sides they have
Classify triangles by sides and angles
Classify quadrilaterals by their characteristics
Task
You will be sharing the polygons that you interact with in your life by posting pictures of them to the wiki. The different types of polygons you will need to post are:
Two different types of Triangles
Two different types of Quadrilaterals
A Polygon that is not a Triangle nor a Quadrilateral
With the pictures of the polygons you will need to properly name each shape you are sharing by typing its name below the picture. Make sure to include your name with your pictures.
Process
You will learn all about the different types of polygons by completing the three lessons in this unit. You should start with the polygon page and then you can move to the triangle and quadrilateral pages in which ever order you want. Once you have completed the three lessons you will complete the Polygon Photo Project on the Photo Page.
Evauation
You will be evaluated in two ways in this unit. Your three quiz scores from the lessons will be combined for one of your grades. The other grade will be the Polygon Photo Project. You will earn two points for each of your photos and five points for correct descriptions of the polygons in your photo.
Conclusion
At the end of this unit you will become aware of the many polygons that fill up your world. This is just one of the many ways that Math is All Around Us.
